Pets in end-game instances

as a healer I never heal pets unless the pet is tanking (or off tanking) and saving our asses because the main tank is dead (unlikely he would die before me) or doesn't know what he's doing. But having a hunter main, I know hunters can heal their own pets. Don't expect me to use my own mana to do so. I have mana problems enough as it is because gung ho parties think they can take on 6 or 7 mobs at once. My healer is only up to 60 though, haven't done raids yet.
don't forget to learn trapping. very important. I've been practicing, but I've had trouble getting into groups. Everyone wants mages it seems.
I had a thread on whether I should get a new pet, but I think mine is fine. Only problems I had was when my pet was main tanking because he was running pallies and warlocks through scholo and dire maul for their epic mounts. My pet required massive healing (the pally did this- as my hot is too slow for the massive damage he was taking).
I'm not sure how often I will be required to off tank, however. I'm still thinking about getting a wolf for this purpose. Right now I have a ravager. Great in solo play as it holds aggro very well. I have bite and gore 9 (and dash 4 iirc). No avoidance trained yet, I may need to when facing aoe bosses.

Life's too short to drink bad beerIn general, it's pretty safe to sick your pet on whatever is the main kill target. There have been occassions (rare, but it happens) that they'll have my pet off-tank a target. I find it easiest to make a macro button for casting hunter's mark and using pet attack, so it can be hotkeyed. That way, I select a target, use the hotkey (in my case, I press 4), and then start attacking. If said target has particularly nasty AoEs, you may have to heal it yourself or just leave it at your side (healers generally don't notice pets very well) - if you're quick enough, you can send it back and forth from you to the target, but I find that to get annoying. Espeically on fights like Thorgin the Tender (or whatever his name is) in Bot. I suppose I could try to create a macro that brings my pet back once he starts using his damn AoE. Hmmmm....Hello! My main character鈥檚 guild has just merged with a larger raiding guild. Now usually, this would not be a problem. However, I am not that experienced with instances. The last instance that I have done was ZF, and now my main is level 66. Before, I would just throw my pet onto a random mob, and adjust what mob it was attacking accordingly.
I would continue doing this, but as I understand the end-game instances are more difficult and require more forethought. I was just wondering, are there were any set guidelines on what mobs I should stick my pet onto? Also, my spec is beastmaster. Thanks in advance for the help!
